Physical Therapy for Drop Foot

I experienced drop foot as a result of hip replacement surgery on 3/14/07. I would like to hear about any physical therapy activities that any of you have used and whether they were of help to you. I have been given water therapy, which did not help the foot. Two therapists told me they "weren't familiar" with drop foot and suggested that if the nerve was too damaged to receive the signal, there wasn't much that could be done about it. Electrical stim, AC and DC were also tried, but did not show any results. Please tell me what, if anything, was prescribed for you.
