groin pain. hip flexor?

I started climbing stairs at work...two at a time. I'd do them three times a day, about 50-60 stairs at a time. I did this for about 3 weeks, and all of a sudden my right hip (I'm right handed) really started to hurt. The pain radiates down the outside of my right leg. Laying in bed is quite painful too. My leg feels heavy and kind of "dead". Raising my right leg to walk up stairs (one at a time) also hurts. So I've stopped doing that. In the meantime, I'm still using the elliptical machine (with no stepping-up motion) about 30 minutes a day. I'm not sure whether this is a groin injury, or a hip flexor injury. Should I ice it and take anti inflammatory's? Any feedback is appreciated.
