Weight exercise after stroke

I had a stroke which affected my balance and weakened the left side of my body (left arm and left leg strength.
I want to perform some weight lifting hoping to regain my strength. Is it okay to perform the light weight lifts on successive days? I know when I was a member of a spa some years back, one was not to perform the same muscle groups because the muscles need abot 40 hours to repair.
