Tib/Fib Break

I have a Tib/Fib Break that occured on Thursday. Friday a metal rob was inserted into the Tibia with 5 screws, the Fibula was left alone because the Doc said it would heal on it's own. I was initially placed into a soft long leg cast from end of foot to thigh. Today I saw an Ortho where I live (the break happened about 5 hours away from my home and the surgery took place at an ER) qhich is 5 days after the surgery, he cut off the soft cast and instead of placing me in a hard cast, opted to put me in a Boot that is removable. He said since we have to remove the staples in 10 days and I am not to apply any weight bearing for at least 8 weeks, it is better to keep this boot on rather than a cast. I just worry that I don't have enough support since the soft cast was so constricting compared to this boot. Any opinions?
