Deltoid Area Pain After Bicycling Crash

I crashed on my bike 8 days ago. Impact was along the length of my forward-extended left arm as I fell sideways and skidded to a stop on my forearm. Road rash is mostly healed now, but I have sharp pain in the region at the base of my deltoid muscle. Didn't seek ER care when I crashed because I was able to ride home (2 miles) without skeletal or muscular pain. Self-exam and then a visit with a nurse friend suggested no separated shoulder. Now this deltoid pain lingers, having presented the evening of the day I crashed, but it's never been bad enough to require meds.

What could this possibly be? Should I get an x-ray and visit an orthopedist, or do therapeutic exercises? If the latter, what exe should I do?
