Knee injury while running fell on black ice

I fell on black ice while running and landed on my right knee. For 4 weeks I have experienced a dull pain and some burning sensation at the base of the knee cap. I just had xray's and an MRI done on my knee and there was no fracture or tear in the miniscus. There was however, some tissue damage apparent behind the knee cap. The Ortheopedic MD I saw suggested trying the 3 injections of synvisc. What is the history with this type of therapy. What are my other choices?
