Ankle and knee pain

A year ago my left ankle started popping as soon as I would start my run. The pop would be a loud pop and then my foot would feel like it was asleep - this continued up until today. 3 months after my left knee started severly hurting, it was hard to walk. I had an MRI done which showed inflammation of the fat pack (behind the patella). I received a cortisone injection but now my ankle hurts really bad. I haven't ran for a looong time and desperately want to get back into it. What do you think it could be???
