osgood-schlatters disease

I was diagnosed with osgood schlatters disease when I was about 10 years old. I am now twenty eight and my knees are so painfull I can barely walk at times. My question is in the eighteen years I've suffered would this disease cause any permenent damage. None of the doctors I've talked to seem to know or care about my situation.
