adoloescent pidgeon toed

I was pidgeon toed as a youth and had it corrected at a young age with corrective shoes.
This past year, I've been involved in a relationship with a woman who has an 11 year old boy who is very active in sports. The boy is severely pidgeon toed. The boy loves sports however, he will be severely limited due to the condition. At one time he briefly wore orthodics. Apparently it was very painful to him and the condition has gone untreated. The boy was also born with cleft pallete (sp?) and has endured numerous sugeries with more to follow. Obviously his mom and I are very concerned about his future. My concerns are primarily cosmetic however, I'm also worried about future foot, ankle and knee problems that may develop.
I found you on the internet and read some inquiries and responses to you and from you.
My question is what types of treatments are best for an 11 year old?

Sincerely,

Jon Holland
