Knee making noises

I was favoring a foot injury when I did something to my knee on the other leg. I’m not even sure when it happened. I first heard it going up the stairs, it popped and then a stretching/tearing sound. It seems anytime I bend it with weight I get the noise. I don’t have any pain or swelling, but I do notice a slight sensation after I have been walking all day. I went to family doc he x-rayed and told me to take an anti-inflammatory, and call him back in a week. Is there a chance I can make this worse in the next week?
