Hi,
I have had the same problem, my neck just cracks and I don't do anything to make it crack. If I turn my head then it pops and relieves pressure. I have heard though that if you do yoga, and there are particular stances to do, that it can correct the problem.

I doubt that you can break your neck with this problem, but maybe there is a real doctor out there (not one who is afraid of liability issues or wants to take some money) that has done legitimate research on the topic who can explain it. It hasn't caused me any problems and it has been doing it for 11 years now.

Good Luck. If it hurts go to a doctor. A real one not a chiropractor, they will tell you anything to get your money.

Anatomically knitted knee support incorporating contoured silicone insert surrounding the patella: The kinetically integrated guide counteracts lateralization of the pattella. During activity the insert not only counteracts patellar malalignment but provides intermittent compression for the reduction of swelling and edema.
