pain on outside of knee

i've just started cycling in a gym and after about five minutes of moderate pace i get a pain on the outside of my left knee. It doesn't force me to stop cycling but carrying through the pain is not comfortable. As soon as i stop cycling the pain eases. I also get the problem after a few minutes of light running. I have not got a history of over-training or anything.

Is there a stretch i should be doing?
