No Curve In Spine

My boyfriend is in the Army and was just told a few days ago he has no curve in his spine, after months of lower back pain....What does that mean? Could he get it all of a sudden or is it that he always had it and never really knew until now? Can it be cured or is there a way to treat it so he's not in so much pain? I've tried lookin all over the internet, and even asked some family members who are in the medical field, but no one has a clue...Please help us understand what no curve in the spine is and how we can handle it. Thanks!
