looks like fat pad on lower back

my 14 yr. old daughter's cheer coach noticed a raised area low on her back, close to the butt crack. It's about 8 inches wide right in the middle of her back, kind of a rectangle. It almost looks like a fat pad. My daughter says it feels like a stabbing pain which I wasn't aware of. She is very active and it hasn't stopped her yet but I'm wondering if it could be a problem. It's not red but it does look raised. thanks for any advice you can give us.
