L5 - S1 protrustion

I have been diagnosed with an L5-S1 disc fissure/protrustion, with right radicular symptoms, approximately an S1 nerve root distribution; ICD-9 codes are 722.2 and 724.4.

What does this mean.

Basically I am in constant pain in my back and tail bone, with radiating pain down my left leg and my groin area. On occation my leg even gives way if I step wrong.
