lower back pain

i work in a stock room at a department store. it requires regular heavy lifting, and a lot of bending and twisting. ive always wore a back brace, but about a month after working there, my lower back started to hurt. i eased up on the heavy lifting and it didnt seem to do any good. ive worked there for 4 months now, and every now and then my legs go numb. every morning, my husband has to help me get out of bed so i can go to work. sometimes i have to call into work because i cant even walk. icing it does not help, and ibuprofen does not help. also last night when my husband was massaging my back, he pressed on my lower back on the left side and there is a popping every time he does it. its not excruciating, but it does worry me...im only 22!! its only on the left side, not the right. but just sitting here hurts. i pretty much know what caused it, but what could this be and does it sound permanent? thank you so much!
