14 y/o son in brace due to very mild-small comp. fracture

My 14 y/o son had a fall from a short zip line (10 feet high) in a friend's backyard. On the ER he was diagnosed with minimal compression fractures on (T2 to T8) and put on a brace. ER treating neuro-spine suggested it will prob take less than a month to heal. A second opinion in a specialized hospital agreed with being minimal, but asked for a more supportive brace. He has been on that brace for over six weeks and due to Dr. vacation, not schedule another visit for one more week.
What is the brace doing for him?
He has no pain since the day after the accident.
He takes the brace off for showering, etc, walking normally, etc. No pain at all.
