Lumps on Back with pain

In Dec I noticed a lump on my lower back 2-3 inches from the spine and have since found 2-3 more in the same area. I have had increasing back pain over/ in the right hip area over the last 2 years and only recently realized they may be connected. When I have a sharp stabbing pain (pain will stop me dead in motion, but then goes away in 10-15 seconds like it never happened) the lump is hard as a rock and softens as the pain dissipates. This pain seems to hit me when I walk over uneven ground or when moving from a sitting to standing position, very seldom when I am doing heavy lifting, or strenuous activity. The CAT scan did not revile anything and have an MRI later this month, I have read a lot of people with the same symptoms but no one seems to respond after they have seen the Doctor. Does anyone have a diagnosis or thought? I have been told by my Doctors so far Fatty tumors, Cysts, and muscle pain.
