Hip pain?

I don't even know how to describe this. I am 57 with a history of JRA but mostly in remission most of my adult life. I have trouble lifting my leg and propping it on my other leg to put on my socks or lifting my leg to put on my underwear. When I get in the car it is difficult and painful to lift my right leg to get in. I am interested in what this is called so I can figure out what kind of exercises I need to do to help this.
