recurring SI joint pain

In March, I injured my right SI joint and was miserable for four days before I got help. I went to the chiropractor who diagnosed me with SI joint inflamation and multiple muscle spasms. I went back as he scheduled me and the pain lessened with each visit. However, the pain worsened during treatment and I had to start over again. This happened twice after the initial damage. By July, I was cleared to begin running agian and ran a triathalon pain-free. I was okay for about two monthes and all of a sudden, in October, I stepped over a baby gate and felt it start all over again. I went to the chiropractor who treated me again. I'm wondering why this keeps coming back and what I might do about it?
