sudden neck pain/problems

hello,so to start i always had this weird problem were it felt like my head got stuck while turning and i quickly snap it. well recently i was laying on my couch and i was getting up and suddenly my neck got stiff and i had extreme pain and couldn't move my neck at all. this lasted a few minutes. then i couldn't move my neck all the way to the left without pain. 2 days later much of the pain is gone but i have this weird problem where i turn my head all the way left but when my head turns back it almost feels like something cathces my muscle/nerve or vein an causes pain, it happens every time i turn my head to the left and upon returning it to a straight position it catches on something and causes pain. i don't have any numbing or tingling. its just an annoying pain. any suggestions?
